TIL for the new lines of low cost lightweight Matter compatible light bulbs there are two steps needed to make the light appear, well, brighter in Apple Home. You set brightness to 100% then you set temperature to whatever your brain registers as making brightness look like what you thought the first step should have done. I understand why but it seems like Apple Home is trying to protect me from blue light or something similarly odd.
I remember noodling with chip-tool or something similar when a prior smart bulb app stopped working but I don’t recall when.

Started down the path to a #selfhosted #portainer #docker, newsletter engine digester after finding an old Raspberry Pi 4 with 8GB RAM that I forgot about and the power adapter to my old Dell laptop with 4GB RAM.
- Daily: Laptop runs one #n8n workflow that fetches emails, sanitizes text via JS, and tasks a Pi running #ollama (qwen2.5:1.5b) with a 3-bullet summary, then logs to local #postgres.
- Weekly: Laptop runs another similar n8n workflow late Saturday night to aggregates the logs, extracts macro-trends via Pi, and email me a brief.
This is both awful and wonderful but with zero cloud fees, completely local, and doesn’t require sub-millisecond response times.
Next: Find slightly more suitable hardware after I get this tuned.

When I said “Ship Left” 1, I meant what I meant. The dread of having any third-party IaaS/PaaS/SaaS simply decide your AUP does not apply 2 is real.

Eastern NC coastal waterways are beautiful to look at from a distance but what you cannot see (easily) are the increasingly periodic “elevated levels of fecal bacteria” in some of those waterways.

Not that I’m going to attempt this right now, but if I was going to do a one shot vibe coded app via “stream of consciousness” that ought to exit and let the machines do what they will, it would be this… “The 30 Thirds Movements”
Create a vignette composition ringtone app that monitors for the cycles of different sequences associated with repeated Notifications and then forms compositional elements of a longer form musical score based on Ry Cooder meets Jacob Collier for biryani potluck style five string guitar riffs combining Indian raga/raag bhupali/khamaj-esqe with essential pentatonic blue scales and a major emphasis throughout with the occasional seventh or the ninth to keep things interesting based on timing of those notifications within a definable microseconds pattern that can be assigned to any of your contacts, app, etc as the default ringtone so that when you are feeling particularly prone to context switching such as flow state you are actually listening for the musicality of communications or attention seeking where it is a pleasant experience, and not so much a drowning siren of beep beep beep with no tonal variation.

A quick message from Lida:
With 18 years building, marketing, and scaling products at startups, I work with founders and leaders stuck between where they are and where they need to be. I help you cut through the noise, make sharper decisions, and get your team executing with clarity instead of chaos.
Most founders mistake complexity for strategy. They keep adding when they should be subtracting. When I'm brought in, the team is usually doing a lot right, and the real issue is focus and direction. I diagnose what's actually going wrong across product, positioning, and execution, then reset direction and get everyone aligned around one clear path forward that will lead to growth.
A bit of what I've done: I was the first PM on a fintech product that hit 10,000+ users within months, built a national incubator that supported over $500M in startup funding, and led teams at 23 Design before it was acquired by frog (the design team behind Apple’s first products). I've spoken at Google, Microsoft, and LinkedIn, etc.
