π₯ Hot Takes Tuesday for 2024-08-20
Tech funding, M&A, and rising interest in gov/military contracts in this rapid-fire edition.
Off the cuff analysis in a rapid fire format.
Firstβ¦ a quick nerdy aside. My Pi-hole approved list of FQDNs grows one entry at a time. Better than 1/5 of objectionable (to me) traffic is being effectively blocked. π

22.4% less garbage in my Interwebs!

π° + πͺ The amounts being raised related to pursuit of US Government / Military contracts seems to be getting more press recently as software and AI/ML becomes the latest in technological progression.

π° + π Seeing funding coverage for companies with βcryptographyβ in the name vs. *cryptocurrency or $omethingCoin *might just mean that nature is healing.

π° + π€ M&A is alive and well in 2024 which means this pattern will likely occur a few more times before end of the year.

π° + π€ Speaking of M&A, the vertical integration for solving key customer challenges is very impressive when there is a specific carve out intended to focus on the accretive value of the combination and simultaneously widen access to growth in the process for the remaining entityβ¦ and it probably anticipates regulatory approval questions before they are posed.

A quick message from Lida:
With 18 years building, marketing, and scaling products at startups, I work with founders and leaders stuck between where they are and where they need to be. I help you cut through the noise, make sharper decisions, and get your team executing with clarity instead of chaos.
Most founders mistake complexity for strategy. They keep adding when they should be subtracting. When I'm brought in, the team is usually doing a lot right, and the real issue is focus and direction. I diagnose what's actually going wrong across product, positioning, and execution, then reset direction and get everyone aligned around one clear path forward that will lead to growth.
A bit of what I've done: I was the first PM on a fintech product that hit 10,000+ users within months, built a national incubator that supported over $500M in startup funding, and led teams at 23 Design before it was acquired by frog (the design team behind Appleβs first products). I've spoken at Google, Microsoft, and LinkedIn, etc.
