Apple CEO Turnover Timing Tribulations
The goal of Sneak Peak Saturday is to sift through the Friday news cycle for the stories designed or timed to be forgotten by Monday that represent peak patronizing publishing.
On Friday it was learned that Apple, the worldโs most valuable company, is engaged in finding a new CEO per Financial Times reporting. Of course, this may not be news to those that understand succession planning but it would likely move markets if announced โsuddenlyโ on a Monday.
Yes, looking at you, Bloomberg News โwe move marketsโ writers ๐. So, a Friday news dump ensures there is no immediate market to react and gives the media a full 36 hours to digest, report, and neutralize the shock of what would normally be part of sensible succession planning for any organization.
By Monday morning, itโs โknownโ information rather than a breaking bombshell and begins socializing the inevitable. Also, floating thee name of a likely successor, John Ternus, might just be enough detail to satisfy curiosity or presumptively address any concerns about physical objects as a continued growth engine for the company.

A quick message from Lida:
With 18 years building, marketing, and scaling products at startups, I work with founders and leaders stuck between where they are and where they need to be. I help you cut through the noise, make sharper decisions, and get your team executing with clarity instead of chaos.
Most founders mistake complexity for strategy. They keep adding when they should be subtracting. When I'm brought in, the team is usually doing a lot right, and the real issue is focus and direction. I diagnose what's actually going wrong across product, positioning, and execution, then reset direction and get everyone aligned around one clear path forward that will lead to growth.
A bit of what I've done: I was the first PM on a fintech product that hit 10,000+ users within months, built a national incubator that supported over $500M in startup funding, and led teams at 23 Design before it was acquired by frog (the design team behind Appleโs first products). I've spoken at Google, Microsoft, and LinkedIn, etc.
