Two great companies, Netlify and Gatsby, are combining. [1]
I remember when I used Netlify for a GatsbyJS version of fudge.org and moved from Netlify to Gatsby Cloud.
Later, I took fudge.org and my newsletter to Buttondown.
I do wonder if the Netlify + Gatsby combo deal was about economics, acqui-hire, or the sheer overlap of customer use cases.
(Wild speculation: If Netlify expands more email delivery [2] that would be a trifecta!)

I believe future archeologists will discover I was part of a period called the “Webbish Age” where life involved filling out a lot of repetitive web forms using manual methods roughly analogous to early hominids that rubbed sticks together to make fire.

Late last night I got around to updating my #soundcloud RSS feed in order to successfully pass the #apple #podcast format checks… and there it is.

And because it is Apple… there is a URL (Apple) for the URL (Soundcloud) so that you can get to the URL (CDN) 🤣

I’ve reached the social media stage where I meant to share a photo of the awesome sandwich I had today for lunch, stream the local coffee shop back porch guitar players, and post a wide angle of the magnificent sunset I witnessed… but you’ll just have to take my word for it I guess.

I made a decision to sweat details by running my own #mastodon and being the only #mastodonadmin that I blame.
I’m looking forward to lessons learned from #upgrade at some point this weekend. https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/releases/tag/v4.1.0

The tendency of YouTube and other social platforms to overwhelmingly weight current IP address ranges as a basis for recommendations is pretty much the mélange of cynical, banal, clichéd, and awful as you might expect.
As CGNAT, device anonymization, private relay / proxy becomes more commonly available, IP address weighting will become a historical footnote in bad design choices by poorly informed marketing teams.

I am as old as “speed dial”
(in case if you experienced that literal push a single button telecommunications feature from 40+ years ago)
When someone asks about #ai the frame my comments take are along the lines of
“and Twilio was founded in 2008”
then sprinkle in
“but now in 2022, most folks assume auto warranty robocalls are what is blowing up their phones”
and end with
“but do go on about how #ai hype is immune to soaring expectations, the precipitous fall, and a banality bounce”
🤔🧐

TIL that YouTube Music comes with if you pay YouTube Premium to turn off the feature where Google inserts every possible permutation of a video interstitial imaginable. It’s not a replacement for Spotify or Apple Music but it does come with… and I don’t Amazon Prime so, there’s that.
